ICC Recognises Pitch Inconsistency at Nassau County Cricket Stadium, Assures Remedy

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and West Indies, is in full cry and the standings table has begun to take shape in the 20-over spectacle.

However, the drop in pitch at the newly constructed Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York has courted criticism and concerns early in the tournament due to their quality and nature.

Taking cognizance of the playing tracks and their nature, ICC released a statement recognising the inconsistency in the pitches.

“T20 Inc and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted," ICC’s statement read.

However, the international body also expressed that the groundsmen have been working hard to find solutions to the situation in order to provide the best playing surface befitting the ICC showpiece for the twenty teams competing in the ongoing edition.

“The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches," it continued.

The drop in pitches, that have been transported to the North American nation all the way from Australia, came under the scanned during India’s tournament opener against Ireland on Wednesday.

India kicked off their campaign with an 8-wicket win over Ireland at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium. However, the track was noted for its slow and unpredictable nature, with skipper Rohit Sharma retiring hurt after being hit on the forearm off a Joshua Little delivery, that bounced off from length.

Several experts have expressed concerns over the preparation of the pitch being rushed in to field the games, with some suggesting a more comprehensive pattern of fashioning involving a meticulous process that has to be followed for the installation of the pitches citing time, play and rolling as the crucial factors.

The pitch is also slated to host the marquee clash between India and Pakistan on the 9th of the month.
