Election Results 2024 LIVE: The swearing in ceremony for Narendra Modi’s third consecutive term as the Prime Minister is most likely to occur on June 9 in the presence of the several global leaders who have been specially invited to attend the event.
Ahead of the ceremony, the newly-elected members of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance are expected to meet on Friday to elect Modi as their leader.
After electing Modi as the leader of NDA, some senior members of the alliance like TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar are scheduled to join the prime minister for a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu to present her the list of parliamentarians supporting him.
On Thursday, the Chief Election Commissioner and his team met the President and submitted the list of newly elected members to her.
Meanwhile, the JD(U) has also sought a review of the Agniveer scheme and the TDP has sought at least three to four berths in the Modi 3.0 cabinet.
With everyone speculating on the possible demands of BJP’s NDA partners ahead of the formation of the government, sources close to Shiv Sena informed CNN-News18 that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, won’t be considered for a Cabinet berth. It has been learnt that the party is considering the names of some senior and experienced party MPs for the big post.
According to sources, Sena is likely to propose the name of Pratap Rao Jadhav for the post of central minister.
In addition to this, the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party is likely to propose the name of Rammohan Naidu as their first preference for a cabinet berth.
For Modi’s oath taking ceremony, India has invited some of the top South Asian leaders– including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina– to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony over the weekend, in lines of the NDA government’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
