Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins did not take part in his side’s T20 World Cup opening fixture against Oman today. Despite not playing the game, Cummins was part of the social media chatter over his commitment to the team. At one point during the match, Cummins, wearing the substitute’s jersey, was spotted carrying drinks for his teammates. The brilliant gesture was praised by fans. India’s T20 World Cup-winning all-rounder Irfan Pathan also posted a two-word message on X (formerly Twitter). “The Culture,” Pathan wrote sharing a picture of Cummins and appreciating Australia’s team spirit.

Cummins has had a tremendous few years as Australia’s skipper in ODIs and Tests. He won the Ashes, the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup for the Kangaroos.
He also led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL 2024 final where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Cummins, the second costliest buy in IPL history, picked up 18 wickets in 16 matches.
At the T20 World Cup, the Aussies are being led by Mitchell Marsh. Despite missing Cummins, Australia was in top form in their tournament opener against Oman at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. They defeated Oman by 39 runs.
Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis claimed three wickets and scored an unbeaten 67 off 36 balls to win the Player of the Match.
