A massive fire broke out in an apartment of a residential society in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida after an air-conditioner exploded on Thursday. The blaze soon spread to other flats in the high-rise apartment leading to chaos.

The incident took place at Lotus Boulevard Society in Sector 100 when the entire flat caught fire after the AC exploded.

While there were no immediate reports of any casualties in the incident, at least five fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flame.

Videos on social media showed heavy smoke billowing from the apartment in one of the residential towers of the society.

Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Choubey said locals and society residents alerted the fire service unit about the incident in the flat on the 10th floor of the building at 10.10 am.

“We immediately rushed five vehicles (water tenders) to the spot. But before our vehicles could reach there, the firefighting systems installed in the society managed to put out the fire within 10 minutes,” he said.

“The fire was triggered by a blast in the AC (air conditioner). Since the firefighting systems like sprinklers, extinguishers, and hoses, were working fine, the fire did not spread out much and was contained in one room (of the flat),” Choubey said, adding that there was no loss of life or injury to any person in the episode.

Last month, a massive fire broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant in Prayagraj following an explosion in an AC compressor. The incident also caused panic among dozens of students studying in a coaching centre located in the same building.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received over 200 calls, including 183 fire-related, on Wednesday, the highest so far this year, officials said.

From January 1 to May 26, they received 8,912 fire-related calls, according to the data shared by the DFS on Monday.

According to the data, fire has taken 55 lives and injured more than 300 people in the national capital so far this year.

Sixteen people were killed in fire-related incidents in January, another 16 in February, 12 in March, four in April, and seven till May 26, it said.
