We are facing the hottest summer in decades at present and the heat is showing us no mercy. The only respite in the hot weather is an AC but the fact remains that not everybody can afford one. Despite the cost of ACs having gone down in the last few years, it is still beyond the purchasing power of the lower middle-class populace, especially in rural areas. They have to make do with fans or be smart enough to make a homemade AC with just bricks and cement. Yes, you read that right. Someone has set up a cooling apparatus with 1,000 bricks and 5 bags of cement. Contrary to what you may think, the cooling effect of the apparatus rivals even that of a conventional AC.
The cooler is constructed from 1,000 bricks, with a network of pipes installed on top. It can provide cool air to rooms without the need for electricity. Made from cement, the cooler’s body prevents the water inside from heating up. The water tank has a capacity of 300 litres, and once filled, it does not need to be refilled for three days.
A fan is mounted on top, and a small pump inside distributes water throughout the cooler via a pipe. When the bricks become wet, they release cool air continuously throughout the day. The person noted that the cooler contains neither grass nor honeycomb, and its maintenance requirements are minimal. A voiceover in the video describes the apparatus in detail and says that it is way cheaper to install these than a conventional cooler and there is no compromise in the cooling aspect.
Although the invention is unique without doubt, not all are convinced. One user commented that the air generated by this cooling apparatus may be impure and everyone would have lung infection within a few weeks. Another user said that if money is instead spent on planting trees, it would automatically cool the environment.
