The Lebanese army said gunmen attempted to attack the US embassy near Beirut on June 5. The army said in a statement on X, that the embassy "was subjected to gunfire by a person holding Syrian nationality." The Lebanese military also said that soldiers shot an assailant and was taken to hospital for treatment. A security source told Reuters that a member of the embassy’s security team was wounded in the attack. The US Embassy said "small arms fire" was reported in the vicinity of its entrance in the morning, adding that its facility and team were safe.
