Scholz Taunts Germany's AfD On Putin "Praise", Backs Deporting Syria, Afghan Migrants Over Crimes

After calls for a tougher stance on migrants, German Chancellor Scholz said serious criminals should be deported, even if they come from Syria or Afghanistan. Scholz warned that glorifying or celebrating acts of terror was "against all our values", and could be punished with deportation. The decision came after an Afghan asylum seeker allegedly killed a police officer in a knife attack on May 31. Calls to step up migrant deportation gained momentum ahead of a European election in which the far right is expected to make sizeable gains. However, experts say carrying out such deportations, even for those convicted of serious crimes, remains difficult.
