Rujuta Diwekar argued that dieting should not be associated with negative emotions like suffering and sacrifice.

For a long time now, dieting has been accepted as the most common way of losing weight. The years of diet culture conditioning have led to the belief that being thin is healthy. As a result, it has become acceptable to go on nutrition-depriving diets in a bid to lose weight. It is not uncommon to see people give up carbohydrates or sugar entirely to reach their dieting goals. Restrictive diets may make people shed weight quickly, but they also come with both physical and psychological side effects.

In recent years, many dieticians and nutritionists have tried to raise awareness about unhealthy dieting practices. Health experts argue that one should focus on a combination of exercise and eating a balanced diet to reach their fitness goals. Occasionally, treating yourself to your favourite calorie-rich food is also encouraged.

Earlier this week, renowned nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar shared a video where she called out diet routines where people completely get off sugar or obsessively count their calories. She called this mindset unhealthy. In a witty speech, Diwekar explained, First of all, we must know that eating correctly isn’t about depriving ourselves of food that we like. Dieting’s definition has unfortunately become associated with suffering and sacrifice. Dieting is not marriage, so why should it be full of suffering and sacrifice?”

She then connected dating and dieting and said, My dating advice, which no one asks for but I always give, is to never marry a girl or a boy who is on a diet, who is off sugar, or who doesn’t eat. This is because you don’t want that kind of negativity in your life. You are looking for a person who eats well and also feeds their loved ones well. This way, you can share all of the ups and downs of your life. It can’t happen with people; you can’t even share a meal without them complaining about the calorie count or the protein levels. You must unfriend people who are like that.”

Her video has gotten over 10,000 likes since it was posted on June 1. In the comments, many people lauded her for using her platform to promote healthy eating in a light-hearted but effective manner. Rujuta Diwekar has over 1.5 million Instagram followers. She routinely makes short video content about healthy eating.
