A Michigan couple were startled to discover a long bootlegger’s tunnel under their jacuzzi while they were renovating the house. Hayley and Trevor Gilmartin, residents of Lake Huron, found a 20-foot-deep tunnel which was connected to Lake Huron. Their discovery reportedly dates back to the Prohibition era.
It is believed that smugglers used to transport alcohol through this tunnel and store it in the adjoining black chamber. The couple bought this house in 2020. Now, after the Covid has reportedly gone for good, the couple decided to start the renovation of their house. The video of their discovery has gone viral.
While renovating the house, Hayley and Trevor Gilmartin stumbled upon the secret room which was connected to Lake Huron by a six-foot pipe. In the video circulating on the internet, Trevor is seen going inside the tunnel to discover its exit point. They described it as “huge” and inaccessible for water removal. This is due to the continuous surge from the lake and surrounding rivers.
The secret room was filled with water and was constructed from dark concrete. It remains completely desolate. The room was supported by a pole and a panelled wall made of wood. It is believed to lead to the extensive tunnel system below. Thinking of being the only one in the area to have such a room inside their house, the Michigan couple were shocked to know that their neighbours too have a secret room inside their homes under their jacuzzi or basement. The Townsville–a media website, has shared the video of the couple discovering the secret room and going inside the tunnel.
The video has been uploaded on TikTok. Wife Hayley admitted to feeling a sense of anxiety when she saw a mysterious dark room under the jacuzzi. However, they were courageous enough to scuba dive inside the tunnel to find the endpoint. The couple is adamant about finding the mysteries behind this secret room. As of now, sealing off the tunnel remains uncertain. Trevor has decided to change the secret room into a game room.
