After almost a decade, Will Smith’s post-apocalyptic horror I Am Legend is returning with a sequel. Based on Richard Matheson’s 20th-century novel, the first I Am Legend film became a big critical and commercial success and is still counted among Smith’s most celebrated roles. While updates about the sequel remain sparse, actor Michael B Jordan who will be sharing the screen space with Will Smith has an update for fans. He stated that the movie is in the pipeline and filming is expected to commence soon. Announced in March 2022, I Am Legend 2 will have Will Smith reprising his role, while Jordan has joined as a new cast member.
In a conversation with People, the Black Panther actor revealed that work is still underway on the film’s script, while the release date is yet to be confirmed.
“We’re still working on the script and getting that up to par. It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him,” he said. Looking forward to sharing the screen with the Oscar-winning actor for the first time, Jordan also said that he looks up to Smith and is very excited to work with him.
Prior to this, Will Smith spoke to Entertainment Tonight and said, “The sequel is looking good. Really solid ideas… I think Michael and I are going to make it on screen together. That dude is the truth, so I would love to do that.”
What To Expect In I Am Legend 2
A sequel to the 2007 sci-fi horror film, I Am Legend 2 was confirmed in 2022, with original screenwriter Akiva Goldsman returning to pen the story. While the sequel was earlier teased to be a prequel, it ultimately didn’t pan out. As hinted at the end of the first film, Smith’s character will somehow survive after the virus outbreak. The actor plays Dr Robert Neville, the “last man” after humanity is wiped out across the whole of New York, turning people into monsters.
Neville dies in the end; however, the theatrical cut shows his return, thus teasing about the following events in the sequel.
