A minor student from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh was tortured and beaten up mercilessly by a group of senior students in Kanpur after the victim reportedly failed to pay Rs 2 lakh demanded by the accused. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to a report in India Today, the teenager came to Kanpur from Etawah to join coaching classes for competitive exams. A report in Republic stated that the teenager had taken admission at Kakadev Coaching hub to prepare for the NEET examination.
The IT report stated that at the coaching centre, the teenager came in contact with some seniors who gave him Rs 20,000 to play an online betting game.
The victim however lost the money, following which his seniors harassed him to pay them Rs 2 lakh instead. When the student could not pay the demanded amount, his seniors locked him inside a room and beat him repeatedly.
The report stated that the accused have been identified as Tanay Chaurasia, Abhishek Kumar Verma, Yogesh Vishwakarma, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Hargovind Tiwari, and Shiva Tripathi. The police arrested them on Monday after some videos of the incident went viral.
According to IT, the accused had shot the videos themselves. The clip showed them kicking and punching the student, including on his private parts.

One of the videos showed an accused trying to burn the student’s hair, while another video showed the student stripped naked with a brick tied to his private part, the report stated.
The publication further mentioned that the assault continued for many days after which the student informed his parents, who then complained to the police in Etawah. However, the student’s family said that the accused were let go by the police after being warned.
On May 4, when the videos went viral on social media, the Kanpur police swung into action and arrested the accused.
The report quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police RS Gautam as saying that the six men have been booked under IPC Sections 147, 34, 343, 323, 500, 506, and 307. They have also been charged under the provisions of the Pocso Act and Section 67(b) of the IT Act.
According to the police, these men have formed a gang and live in a flat, where they trap innocent students and threaten and blackmail them, the publication mentioned.
