The song is composed by music director Kailas Menon and sung by Nithya Mammen and Hari Sankar K S.

People are proving that music transcends language barriers. Many singers are giving this adage a new meaning by translating popular songs across languages. Recently, a woman named Debosmita Deb shared a video singing the Malayalam song Nee Himamazhayayi in three languages. Debosmita Deb, who has over 20,000 Instagram followers, seamlessly transitioned from Malayalam to Bangla, before ending the song in Hindi.

The video of her melodious mashup has got over 46,000 likes since it was posted on June 3. Her unique musical experiment garnered much praise from people. Amongst them was Nee Himamazhayayi’s composer, Kailas Menon. He appreciated the woman’s efforts and wrote, “Wow. This is so beautiful. You sang really well. And the song sounds so nice in Bangla & Hindi.”

Nee Himamazhayayi is from the 2019 action-drama Edakkad Battalion 06, which did moderately well and got lukewarm reviews. It had an ensemble cast of Tovino Thomas, Samyuktha Menon, Joy Mathew, Rekha, Sudheesh and Abu Salim. The song Nee Himamazhayayi was composed by music director Kailas Menon and sung by Nithya Mammen and Hari Sankar K S.

An Instagram user urged her to put her songs on music streaming platforms and wrote, “Can you please start recording your songs, stream it somewhere and let us take a subscription? I live alone, I could use it to sleep better at night.”

Many also lauded the singer for her perfect diction and accent in all three languages, especially Malayalam. An Instagram user wrote, “Malayalam is a tough nut to crack, but you are doing good, would like to see more Malayalam songs from you.” Another person wrote, “Beautiful. I am Bengali, my best friend is a Malayali from Tripura. I’m gonna make her listen to this. This is wonderful.”

A comment read, “I have found some amazing similarity in the phonetics of Malayalam and Bengali, maybe that’s the reason why these two mother tongue speaking singers can easily sing Malayalam and vice versa. Amazing singer. Soulful singing.”

Back in May, a similar video went viral. It showed a mother-son duo singing the popular Tamil song Vaseegara from the 2001 film Minnale in different languages. Displaying stunning musical talent, the duo transitioned to Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil without breaking the flow. This video got over 5.4 lakh likes since it was shared on May 19.

Vaseegara was initially released in Tamil. After the song’s popularity and remake of the film, it was later adapted into other languages. Vaseegara emerged as a breakthrough song for music composer Harris Jayaraj and singer Bombay Jayashri.
