Yuvan Shankar Raja, the son of legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, has followed in his father’s footsteps, creating a significant impact on the music industry with his unique compositions and style. His association with Sivaji Ganesan, even as a child, highlights the rich cultural milieu he was part of, which likely influenced his musical journey.

Yuvan has worked on over 170 films over 25 years. The youngest son of composer Ilaiyaraaja, he began his musical career in 1996, at the age of 16, when he composed the score for Aravindhan. His breakthrough came with the soundtrack to Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002), and by the mid-2000s he had established himself as one of the most sought-after composers in Tamil cinema.

He was awarded the 2004 Filmfare Award for Best Music Director – Tamil for his score for the drama 7G Rainbow Colony. In 2006, he became the only Indian composer to win the Cyprus International Film Festival Award for the soundtrack of Raam. He also won the 2009 Filmfare Special Award – South for his Telugu musical Oy! In 2015, Yuvan founded his own music label, U1 Records, and in 2017, his own film production studio, YSR Films.
