Korean girl group BLACKPINK’s member Rose is basking in success. The month of June has just begun and Rose has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify already this year. A key member of the internationally acclaimed BLACKPINK, Rose has consistently proven herself as a solo artist. This time, her songs Gone and On The Ground have achieved 100 million streams on Spotify in 2024. Released about three years ago, the tracks remain fans’ favourite.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Rose reportedly moved to South Korea after being discovered by YG Entertainment in 2012. She took on four years of intense training before making her debut with BLACKPINK in August 2016. Fortunately, her hard work paid off and the group BLACKPINK quickly rose to global stardom. As for Rose, in March 2021, she started a solo career with her debut single album titled R. The album sold nearly 4,50,000 copies in its first week, informs Allkpop. This was a record for a female K-pop soloist at that time.
Her lead single from album R, titled On The Ground quickly gained a huge following. It topped the charts and broke many records, including the most-viewed music video in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist. The album’s second track, Gone, also performed well and reached the top ten rank in South Korea.
Apart from these musical accolades, the idol is also known for her fashion sense. She is a global ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent. In 2021, she made history as the first female Korean idol to attend the Met Gala. On social media too, Rose enjoys immense popularity.
Talking about the group Rose belongs to, BLACKPINK has been a global sensation for quite a few years now. Their debut single album Square One, released in 2016, featured hits like Whistle and Boombayah. The group continued to break records with their subsequent releases. Ddu-Du Ddu-Du was the first song by a Korean female group to enter the UK Singles Chart and receive RIAA certification. Their albums The Album (2020) and Born Pink (2022) shattered sales records in South Korea, with Born Pink becoming the first girl group album to top both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart.
Formed by YG Entertainment, the group consists of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. They are often dubbed the “biggest girl group in the world.”
